Eco friendly decorators
We are increasingly aware of the need to look after our environment. At Andrews Decorating we like to do our bit.
A focus on quality products and workmanship to ensure a durable job that will last. This saves costs and energy in the long term, increasing time between maintenance cycles.
I use waterbased paints wherever I can to minimise environmental impact. They have a lower carbon footprint than oil/solvent based paint.
I always measure up properly to ensure minimum wastage. This saves costs and minimises packaging and left over paint .
Where possible we recycle our used paint tins and equipment. We never empty paint into drains, we dispose of all waste paint responsibly.
Benefits of water based paints:
- They can be flexible, moving with substrates thus eliminating cracking and flaking, reducing maintenance on exteriors, or hard and abrasion resistant for interior decorating.
- Solvent based trim paints like gloss, eggshell and satinwood eventually go yellow with time.Whilst waterbased equivalent products are non-yellowing.
- Waterbased paints are pleasant to use reducing nasty fumes in your home.
In some situations a solvent based paint solution is going to out last a waterbased paint in which case the solvent paint will be most environmentally friendly.
Its not a straight forward as waterbased is greener, each job must be assesed on its merits.
Quality and durability of the finish are as important as the composition of the paint when it comes to the environment.
